Recording
How KeptNote listens, and what it needs from you.
Will a bot join my meeting?
No. KeptNote captures your microphone and the sound already playing on your Mac. Nothing new appears in the attendee list.
Which call apps does it work with?
Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and other call apps. KeptNote listens to the Mac, not to the app, so the app does not need to know about it.
Can I record an in-person meeting?
Yes. In person mode uses the microphone only. Call mode adds the sound playing on your Mac.
Does it notice when a call starts?
It notices when a call app or a browser such as Chrome, Safari, Arc, Edge, Brave or Firefox starts using the microphone. It then offers Start, Not now, or Never for this app. It can also stop by itself when the call ends or after silence, if you turn that on.
What if the app or my Mac crashes mid-meeting?
Audio is saved in 5-second pieces as you go. A crash loses almost nothing, and you can pause and resume at any time.
Do other people know they are being recorded?
KeptNote does not tell them, and it never interrupts you with a consent prompt. Telling people, and following the laws about recording where you are, is your responsibility, as the Terms say. The guide has optional help on how to ask.
Does it know who is speaking?
It tells voices apart as Me and Them on calls, and Room in person. It does not name individual speakers.
Can I rest my eyes during a long meeting?
Yes. Switch from Notes to Reef and a living reef plays while KeptNote keeps listening. It makes no sound during a meeting, and nothing leaves your Mac. Four of the seven waters are always free; the trial and KeptNote Personal open all seven.
Notes
How a meeting becomes a note you can trust.
How is the note written?
On your Mac, by Apple's on-device model. It needs Apple Intelligence on macOS 26 or later, with no key and no internet. Each line links to the moment in the transcript it came from.
Can I type my own notes?
Yes. Type during the meeting, and afterwards switch between My notes and Enhanced.
What are templates?
Six ready shapes for a note: General, 1:1, Standup, Sales call, Interview and User research. You can make your own too. Press / in the editor to open them.
How do I check where a line came from?
Point at a line of the note. Its time shows at the end of the line. Press it, and the transcript opens beside the note at that moment, with the words, who said them and when.
Can I get a more polished note?
Yes, with Improve using your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Google or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint. It shows an estimated cost per meeting before you use it.
Can I ask questions about my meetings?
Yes. Ask works on one meeting or across all of them. It needs your own AI provider key.
Which languages does it understand?
Transcription covers 15 languages plus auto-detect: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The note can be in the meeting's language or another. KeptNote's own screens are in English.
Privacy
Where everything lives, and the one time it leaves.
Where is my data?
On your Mac, in plain files. Recording, transcription and the default note all happen there. See how it fits together.
Does anything leave my Mac?
Only if you turn on Improve or Ask with your own key. Then the meeting text goes to the provider you chose, and nothing else does. Calendar data never leaves the Mac.
What happens to the audio?
By default, raw audio moves to the Trash only after the transcript and note are written and verified. To keep it, turn on Keep raw microphone and system audio forever in Settings > Transcription.
Which AI providers can I use, and who pays?
Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Google, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Your keys live in the macOS Keychain, and the provider bills you directly.
Is there an account?
No. The trial needs no account and no card.
Does the reef on the home page record my voice?
No. It reacts to loudness only, in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere. The full policy is in Privacy.
Pricing
Try it first. Buy it once.
What happens when the trial ends?
Your meetings stay. They remain readable and exportable forever, whether you buy or not. You just cannot record new ones until you do.
Do I get updates?
All version 1 updates are included. A future version 2 would be a separate purchase, discounted for owners.
How many Macs can I use?
Two. One purchase covers one person on two Macs.
Is the AI included?
The note KeptNote builds on your Mac is included and needs no internet. For a polished, rewritten note you add your own AI provider key, and that provider bills you directly.
Is there a subscription?
No. It is $99 once for the first 500 buyers, then $149 once. The trial is 14 days with everything unlocked, no card and no account. See pricing.
Switching and files
Bring what you have. Take it with you.
Can I bring my notes from another app?
Yes. Choose File, then Import from Another App. It takes CSV, Markdown or text files, or a folder of them, as exported by Granola, Otter, Fathom, Fireflies and others. Imported meetings have no audio or transcript and are labelled as imported. How to switch.
What format are my notes in?
Markdown, in plain files you can open anywhere. There is no proprietary format.
How do I share a note?
The Share menu can copy a note, copy it for Slack, start an email draft, send it to Apple Notes, save Markdown, or create a shareable page. That page is a self-contained HTML file on your Mac, not a hosted link.
Can Claude Desktop read my meetings?
Yes, through a local connector, and only if you connect it. Claude Desktop can then list, search and read your meetings on your Mac.
Requirements and availability
What you need, and when.

Is there an iPhone, Apple Watch, Windows or Android app?
KeptNote is a Mac app today. KeptNote for iPhone and Apple Watch is coming to the App Store. There is no Windows or Android app.
