Where this stands
KeptNote for iPhone is coming to the App Store. It is not there yet. This article describes the widgets and controls that come with it.
Home Screen widgets
Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen, press the plus button, and search for KeptNote. There are three widgets.
- Record, small. A reef picture, the KeptNote shell and a Record button. Shallows by day and Deep at night, following the system. While you record, it shows the recording light, a clock that counts on its own, and pause and stop buttons.
- Latest notes, medium and large. Your newest meetings with the time, how long each ran and the title. Medium shows two and large shows four. A note still being written says so. While you record, the top row is the recording. Press a meeting to open it.
- Reef, small and medium. One picture from the reef: coral, fish, kelp or a turtle. By default it changes through the day. Press and hold the widget, choose Edit Widget, and under Picture pick Changes through the day, Coral, Fish, Kelp or Turtle.
The Record button opens KeptNote on its Ready screen. You press Start recording there. Pause and stop work from the widget while a recording runs.
Lock Screen widgets
Touch and hold the Lock Screen, press Customize, and add the KeptNote widget in one of three shapes: circular, rectangular or inline.
- Idle, the circular one is the shell, and a tap opens the Ready screen. The rectangular one says Record a meeting, with Next meeting 2:00 PM or Last note 4:19 PM under it. The inline one says KeptNote.
- While you record, they show the recording light and the time. The circular one draws a ring that fills once an hour.
Meeting titles stay hidden while the iPhone is locked. A hidden title shows as Meeting.
StandBy
When the iPhone lies on its side and charges, StandBy shows widgets large. The Reef widget is made for it. It shows a reef picture that changes through the day, so a phone on a nightstand looks alive. At night, StandBy tints it red, and it reads as a silhouette. Put two Reef widgets side by side and pin a different picture on each.
Control Center, Lock Screen and Action button
KeptNote offers three controls.
- Record. Opens KeptNote ready to record. You press Start recording there, so nothing records by accident.
- Stop recording. Stops the recording and starts writing your note. It is dimmed when nothing records.
- Mark this moment. Marks a moment in the recording. It shows in your note with its time. It is dimmed when nothing records.
To add one to Control Center, open Control Center, touch and hold an empty space, press Add a Control and choose a KeptNote control.
To put one on the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, press Customize, and tap one of the two control slots at the bottom.
To use one on the Action button, open Settings on the iPhone, choose Action Button, then Controls, and pick a KeptNote control. This needs an iPhone with an Action button.
