Launch at login and the Dock icon

KeptNote opens when you log in, so a meeting prompt can reach you. You can turn that off, and change how KeptNote looks.

Launch at login

The first time you open KeptNote, it adds itself to your login items. The reason is simple: a meeting prompt can only reach you if KeptNote is running. KeptNote does this once. macOS shows its own notice that a login item was added.

To change it, open Settings. On the General tab, find Startup and turn Launch KeptNote at login on or off. If you turn it off, it stays off. You can also remove KeptNote in System Settings, under General, then Login Items.

If macOS refuses the change, KeptNote shows Could not update launch at login and the reason.

The Dock icon

In Settings, on the General tab, under Appearance, App icon has two choices.

  • Ink. A dark tile with a light mark. This is the starting choice.
  • Paper. A light tile with a dark mark.

The row says it Changes the Dock icon while KeptNote is open. Finder and Launchpad keep the icon that came with the app.

KeptNote has no setting to hide its Dock icon. It also always has its icon in the menu bar. Both are part of the app, and you cannot turn either one off.

Light, dark and the reef picture

  • Appearance in the same section sets the look: System follows macOS, Shallows is the light water, and Deep is the dark. You can also change it in the View menu, under Appearance.
  • Reef picture shows a photo of a reef behind the window. Where you read, the water stays clear. It is on at first. The View menu has the same switch, named Reef Picture. This is a photo behind the window. It is not the Reef you play.

The live meeting indicator

While you record and another app is in front, a slim tab shows at the edge of your screen. You can drag it to the left or right edge. Turn it off in Settings, on the General tab, under During a meeting, with Live meeting indicator. It is on at first.
