Where this stands
KeptNote for iPhone is coming to the App Store. It is not there yet. This article describes how it works.
The Live Activity
When a recording starts, iOS shows a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It shows the recording light and a clock that counts on its own. It has three buttons: Mark, Pause or Resume, and Stop. In the expanded Dynamic Island, the same buttons are there.
Press Mark to mark the moment. See Mark a moment. The buttons work without opening the app.
If you wear an Apple Watch, the Live Activity also appears on the watch, in the Smart Stack. There it has a smaller layout: the light, the time, Mark and Pause or Resume. Stop stays on the iPhone and in the watch app, where it asks first.
Your note is ready
After you stop, KeptNote transcribes and writes the note. When it is done, a quiet notice says Your note is ready. It adds how long the meeting was and how many moments you marked, for example Your note is ready. 42 minutes, 3 moments marked. It has an Open button.
The notice never shows the meeting title. A notice can appear on a locked iPhone and on your wrist, so it keeps the title out.
This notice is on by default. iOS asks for permission to send notices once, right after your first recording ends. To turn the notice off, open Settings in KeptNote, find Notifications, and turn off Your note is ready.
Meeting reminders
Meeting reminders are off by default. KeptNote asks for your calendar and for notifications only when you turn them on.
Open Settings in KeptNote and find Notifications.
Turn on Meeting reminders. iOS asks for access to your calendar and to send notices. Allow both.
If you want the meeting name in the reminder, turn on Show meeting titles. It is off at first. Titles then show on your Lock Screen and on your watch.
Two minutes before a meeting on your calendar, KeptNote sends a reminder. Without titles it reads Meeting at 2:00 PM and Starts in 2 minutes. With titles on, it shows the meeting name and the time. The reminder has a Record button. It opens the Ready screen, and you press Start recording there.
- Only meetings with at least one other person, or a video link, get a reminder.
- KeptNote reads your calendar on the iPhone. Calendar events never leave it.
- KeptNote sets up reminders for the next seven days when you open the app, and again when your calendar changes while it runs. A meeting you add while the app is closed gets its reminder the next time you open KeptNote.
