Why KeptNote says this
An update replaces the KeptNote app with a newer copy. To do that without a password, your account must be able to change the app and the folder it sits in. Usually it can. It cannot when another account on the Mac put KeptNote there, when KeptNote sits in a folder you do not own, or when you opened it straight from the downloaded disk image.
In those cases KeptNote does not start the update, and it does not show a password prompt. It shows a card on Home: KeptNote can't update itself where it is. It asks again at most once a week. Everything else keeps working, and so do your meetings and notes.
Move KeptNote from this account
- Quit KeptNote. Open the KeptNote menu and choose Quit KeptNote. If a recording runs, stop it first.
- In Finder, find KeptNote. If you opened it from the disk image, it is in the window of that image.
- Choose Go, then Home. If your Home folder has no Applications folder, choose File, then New Folder, and name it Applications.
- Drag KeptNote into that Applications folder. You own it, so macOS does not ask for a password.
- Open KeptNote from there. Your meetings and settings are already in place. They are not part of the app.
After you move it
From then on KeptNote checks for updates by itself, downloads a new version in the background, and installs it when you quit or when you choose Restart in the update line. It never restarts while you record or while it writes a note. The Install KeptNote article has the rest.
If you choose Dismiss on the card and do nothing, KeptNote still works. It just stays on the version you have until you move it or download the new version from keptnote.com.
