Use the reef on this Mac
Open Settings and go to the General tab. Find the section Wallpaper and screen saver.
Next to Use the reef on this Mac, press Use the reef.
KeptNote sets the reef wallpaper on every screen, adds the Reef screen saver, and opens System Settings at Screen Saver.
In Screen Saver, choose KeptNote Reef. You find it under Other.
A line under the row tells you what happened, for example Wallpaper set on 2 screens. Choose KeptNote Reef to finish. If something fails, the line says what, and says that nothing was changed.
The row Water chooses the picture. Follow the app is Shallows by day and Deep at night. You can also pin Shallows or Deep.
Undo the wallpaper
Before KeptNote changes your wallpaper, it remembers the one you had. When there is an earlier wallpaper to bring back, a second button, Undo wallpaper, appears next to Use the reef. Press it and your earlier wallpaper returns. The line under the row says so, for example Your earlier wallpaper is back on 1 screen.
If a screen cannot be put back, the line says No screen could be put back. Choose a wallpaper in System Settings. You can always choose a wallpaper yourself in System Settings.
The Reef screen saver
The screen saver is a slow reef for your idle screen. Fish cross it at different depths, far ones small and soft and near ones sharp. The picture follows the hour: Shallows in the morning, Deep at night. The KeptNote name and keptnote.com sit at the bottom right. Nothing from your notes is ever shown.
It is a normal macOS screen saver, so KeptNote does not have to be open for it to run. With Reduce Motion on, it holds one still picture and dissolves to the next every minute.
The second row in the same section, Reef screen saver, manages the saver by itself.
- Add the Reef screen saver copies it to your Screen Savers folder and opens System Settings.
- Once it is added, the button becomes Open System Settings, with Remove beside it.
- If a newer copy came with an update, the button reads Update. Close System Settings first if it is open.
In System Settings, press the screen saver’s options to choose the water: Follow the time of day, Deep or Shallows. The same sheet has Visit keptnote.com.
Free wallpapers for every device
The wallpapers are free. You do not need a license or an account. The wallpapers page has pictures for your Mac, for the iPhone Lock Screen and for an Apple Watch Photos face, each in Shallows and Deep. The KeptNote name is in the corner of each one.
